Therese Smith Benefits Her Alma Mater, Workplace

Therese Smith

As a two-time University of Kentucky alumna, Therese Smith wants to see her alma mater succeed. And as the Community of Concern director, she is uniquely positioned to understand UK’s needs. Every year, she supports the College of Communication and Information, College of Public Health, VIP Center, Employee Assistance Fund and Student Basic Needs Fund

“’Rising tides raise all boats,’” Therese said. “I don’t remember where that quote comes from, but I believe it’s true and I feel we all should help others when able. The three funds I support provide direct financial support to those in crisis, and I hope the ability to access those funds helps someone struggling overcome a hurdle. I also want to support the institution from which I received my education and where I now work. I also like helping others where I can and UK makes that easy.”

Therese uses payroll deduction to make her gifts, because she said it is easy and convenient.

Her support brings UK closer to its $2.1 billion campaign total. Publicly announced in September 2014, Kentucky Can: The 21st Century Campaign improves opportunities for student success, funds innovative research, improves health care, strengthens the alumni network and supports athletic programs. Already halfway to its goal, Kentucky Can benefits from the support of faculty and staff like Therese.
