Henry Smith

Growing up in LaGrange, Georgia, Henry always liked science, excelling in biology and chemistry. Now, he is turning his passion into a lifelong career. As an Ag Biotech major, he is working with the Plant Pathology Lab to research plant diseases and the effects drugs have on plants and learning how he can help farmers use genetics to increase their crop yields.

As an out of state student, Henry benefitted from the Provost Scholarship. It enabled him to afford his education and get involved on campus, including serving on the Student Philanthropy Board.

“I am only here because of the scholarship,” Henry said. “It allowed me to take out fewer students loans and to not rack up debt while I am in school.”

Henry first got involved in philanthropy through Farmhouse Fraternity and his brother, Brack Duncan ’19, who has his own nonprofit.

“I have always gone on mission trips, and I like the feeling I get from helping others,” Henry said. “Now, I am working to start a chapter of Brack’s charity in my hometown, and I am using the skills I learned through the Student Philanthropy Board to do it.”
