Jillian Gibney

A native of Newtown, Connecticut, Jillian worried about how she would afford her education. Luckily, the Bluegrass Scholarship eased her fears.

“Leaving college debt free is one of the greatest things that has happened to me,” Jillian said. “I can go into the career that I want rather than going into a position simply so I can earn enough money to pay back my loans. It is an incredible opportunity that I have been given.”

Now, she wants to help others experience the same relief. She wants to work in corporate philanthropy, helping to direct the corporation’s giving to nonprofits. She also has dedicated her free time to serving her community since high school. She helped raise money in high school to get a food truck for a program that feed the hungry.

On campus, she is a member of the service fraternity, Alpha Phi Omega, and the Student Philanthropy Board as well as the women’s rugby team.

“I knew I had to do something with philanthropy, and this board has helped me learn how to be more philanthropic and how to bring in other people so that we can spread the culture of giving throughout campus and the community,” Jillian said.
